MCP (Model Context Protocol)

Available

Connect any Model Context Protocol server to Prio for custom tool access. Add specialized capabilities like CRM queries, internal databases, or proprietary APIs through the open MCP standard.

What you can do

Connect any MCP server

Add custom tool servers that speak the Model Context Protocol. Prio discovers available tools automatically and makes them accessible through chat.

Custom tools in your chat

Tools from your connected MCP servers appear alongside built-in tools. Ask Prio to query your CRM, check inventory, or call any custom API through natural conversation.

Open protocol standard

MCP is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to external tools and data sources. Any MCP-compatible server works with Prio out of the box.

Per-user connections

Each user can connect their own MCP servers. Connections are isolated per account so team members can have different tool sets.

How to connect

1
Go to the integrations page and select MCP
2
Enter your MCP server URL
3
Configure authentication if required by the server
4
Prio auto-discovers available tools and they become available in chat

Frequently asked questions

What is Model Context Protocol?

MCP is an open standard created by Anthropic for connecting AI assistants to external tools and data sources. It defines how assistants discover and call tools hosted on remote servers. Think of it as a universal plugin system for AI.

What MCP servers are compatible?

Any server that implements the MCP specification works with Prio. This includes open-source community servers, commercial tool providers, and custom servers you build yourself.

Is it secure to connect external servers?

MCP connections use OAuth or token-based authentication. Each connection is scoped to your account and tool calls go through Prio's standard approval flow. You control which servers are connected and can disconnect at any time.

Do I need to build my own MCP server?

No. There's a growing ecosystem of pre-built MCP servers for common tools and services. You can also build custom servers using the open-source SDKs available in Python, TypeScript, and other languages.

How does tool discovery work?

When you connect an MCP server, Prio queries it for its available tools and their descriptions. These tools then become available in your chat automatically. If the server adds new tools, Prio picks them up on the next connection refresh.
